Privacy

We assume that a certain degree of privacy is important for every individual.  Discuss why privacy is important at times and how technology can hinder an individual’s right to privacy and/or make privacy possible.

There are many degrees to which people would like privacy. Some prefer to have privacy as much as possible and others only prefer it when it is absolutely necessary. While the technological advances of our society have made some feel as though Big Brother is watching them at all times, there are in fact some periods in which we do have privacy. It is important for humans to be able to do certain things in private, so that we will feel comfortable and as though the whole world is not watching us at our most intimate moments. With the use of GPS and location services it is almost easier to track someone than to ask someone what their location is. Some view that as a threat and it most definitely can be considered one. The thought of someone being able to know someones location at all times is intimidating. However, if someone were to think about it, say that you were kidnapped or were lost, and you had your smartphone with GPS on it, someone would be able to track your location and your chances of survival are dramatically increased. So, while technology is not perfect and it does infringe on our privacy, it also has the potential to better our lives with the same ease. Maybe, its not a devil in disguise but a blessing not yet uncloaked.
